Traveling in Europe has been simplified with the introduction of the Schengen visa. With a Schengen visa, you may enter one country and travel freely throughout the Schengen zone.
As of March 26th, 1995, Schengen visa was introduced by the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden.
Nine new countries which entered the Schengen travel area in 2007 were: the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia.
A Schengen visa issued by an Embassy or Consulate of the above counties allows the holder to travel freely in all of these countries.
